The Story Behind the Dragonfly

I get a lot of questions about the meaning of the dragonfly on the logo, so I wanted to share the significance behind it. Back in 2010, my oldest sister, Katie, was in a car accident, and unfortunately she passed away. After her accident, we planted a tree off of Burke Lake Road in her honor. Dozens of dragonflies swarmed the tree during the first year, and my family quickly developed a strong connection with the winged insect. We each have dragonfly tattoos, dragonfly car decals, dragonfly everything. There is not a day that goes by that I do not catch myself thinking about her smile or her contagious laughter. I miss her everyday, and I always strive to live my life to the fullest because of her. So, naturally when I got the idea to create my own summer camp, I thought that it would be a good way to continue to honor her name. That's why the dragonfly is proudly placed next to the Summer Cove name.
